Carlos Alcaraz drops out of the ATP and Davis Finals due to his injury in Paris

The Spaniard puts a "painful" end to his historic season

MADRID, 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will not be able to play the ATP Finals or the Davis Cup, the last two events of the year, after confirming this Saturday an "abdominal injury" suffered on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1,000 in Paris-Bercy.

"After yesterday's withdrawal and after being evaluated by my medical team, unfortunately this is the state of my injury: muscle tear in the internal oblique musculature of the left lateral abdominal wall, with an estimated recovery time of six weeks," The Murcian wrote on his social networks.

The number one in the world withdrew from his duel against the Danish Holger Rune, when he was looking for the third set, due to some inconvenience for which he preferred not to force. Finally, the injury occurred so that Alcaraz will not be able to fight for the first time for the Masters Cup that takes place in Turin (Italy) from next Sunday the 13th.

"Unfortunately, I will not be able to be in the ATP Finals or the Davis Cup Finals. It is a hard and painful moment to miss these two events that are so important for me, but it only remains to be positive and think about recovering well," he said. In the Italian appointment, he will be replaced by the American Taylor Fritz.

Alcaraz, who appreciates everyone's support, was part of Sergi Bruguera's team and will not be able to help Spain in the Final 8 of the Davis Cup in Malaga either. The one from El Palmar closes his historic season with a record of 57-13 (five titles), with number one achieved on September 12 after winning the US Open.
