Business creation registers its best August since 2007, with 6,609 new companies

MADRID, Oct. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) - The number of new commercial companies increased by 11.8% last August compared to the same month in 2022, reaching a total of 6,609 companies, its highest figure in a month of August since 2007, according to data released this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the rebound in August, more than 3.5 points lower than that registered in July, the creation of companies has chained eight consecutive months of year-on-year increases.

For the constitution of the 6,609 companies created last August, just over 1,625 million euros were subscribed, which is almost six times more than in the same month last year (488.5%), while the average capital subscribed , which stood at 245,990 euros, shot up 426.3% year-on-year.

While the creation of companies increased, the dissolution of companies decreased in August, 13.5% compared to the same month in 2022, to a total of 1,349. Thus, every day of the month of August, 44 companies closed their doors in Spain.

Of the 1,349 companies that closed last August, 80.5% did so voluntarily, 12.5% ​​due to a merger with other companies and the remaining 7% for other reasons.

18.5% of the commercial companies that were created in the eighth month of the year were dedicated to commerce and 17.5% to real estate, financial and insurance activities.

Regarding companies dissolved by main economic activity, the highest percentages are also found in commerce (19.2%) and then in construction (14.4%).

For its part, the number of commercial companies that increased capital increased by 5.4% in August, up to 2,173 companies. The capital subscribed in these increases exceeded 1,661 million euros, 33.5% higher than in August 2022, while the average capital was 764,685 euros, 26.6% more.

In the first eight months of the year, 11.3% more companies have been created than in the same period of 2022. For its part, the number of dissolved companies has decreased by 1.3% until August.

In monthly terms (August over July), the incorporation of new companies plummeted by 20.3%, its largest monthly fall in the month of August since 2021, while dissolutions fell by 4%, its smallest decline in this month in at least five years.

MADRID AND CATALONIA LEAD THE CREATION OF BUSINESSES

The communities that created the greatest number of companies last August were Madrid (1,435 companies), Catalonia (1,340) and Andalusia, where 1,106 companies were created. The regions that formed the fewest companies in the eighth month of the year were La Rioja (28), Cantabria (31) and Navarra (51).

Fourteen regions created more companies in August than in the same month of 2022, especially Extremadura (28.8%), the Basque Country (24.4%), Andalusia (19.8%), Navarra (18.6%) and Galicia ( 18.4%).

On the other hand, three communities registered year-on-year decreases: Cantabria, where 42.6% fewer companies were created than in August 2022; Balearic Islands (-11.1%) and Asturias (-4.6%).

Looking at dissolved commercial companies, the communities with the highest number of dissolutions in August 2023 were Madrid (478), Andalusia (194) and Catalonia (120). On the contrary, the autonomous communities with the fewest dissolved commercial companies were Navarra (6), La Rioja (9) and Cantabria (13).

Seven communities increased their number of business dissolutions last August in an interannual rate, mainly Navarra (50%) and the Canary Islands (40.4%); nine reduced it, especially the Valencian Community (-35.4%), Galicia (-32.1%) and Cantabria (-31.6%), and only one region, Asturias, did not experience any variation compared to August of last year .
