British rapper accused of setting up an Islamic State cell in Spain found dead in his cell

Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, the British rapper of Egyptian origin who was tried by the National Court for allegedly leading an Islamic State cell in Spain, has been found dead this Wednesday morning in the prison cell where he was admitted, Prison sources have confirmed to Europa Press.

Prisons has notified the duty court of the death and has opened an internal investigation to clarify the circumstances and causes of death.

The trial of Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, accused of being the leader of a "cell" of the Islamic State that was financed by bank scams and that sought to "consolidate" the Islamic caliphate in Spain, as well as for the other two defendants, Abderrezak Seddiki and Kossaila Chollouah, was seen for sentencing at the National Court on July 14.

The Public Ministry asked the three defendants for sentences ranging from 7 to 9 years for an alleged crime of integration into a terrorist organization that was financed with bank fraud. Abdel Bary has been in prison since he was arrested in April 2020 in Almería in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and with the country locked up in his house.

Likewise, during the trial, the Public Ministry indicated that the leader of the alleged terrorist cell, Abdel Bary, already appeared in warnings for terrorism in the United Kingdom, that there are references to Europol and that he traveled from Turkey to Syria "to defend the road of Allah" and cited that after arriving in that country in 2013, his activity was monitored in networks and in 2017 he posed with a decapitated head.
