Bolaños says that Sánchez and Xi will talk in China about a possible ceasefire in Ukraine

The Government has been working on the official trip for several weeks and it takes place at the invitation of the Chinese president

MADRID, 23 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, has reported that President Sánchez and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will address the possible ceasefire in the war in Ukraine and the role of mediation with Russia that it is carrying out Cape Peking.

Thus, he has indicated that this will be one of the issues that will be on the table during the official trip that Sánchez will make to China next week, on March 30 and 31. A trip, which according to the minister has been produced at the invitation of Xi to Sánchez and in which the Government has been working for several weeks.

In an interview on TVE, collected by Europa Press, Bolaños has indicated that this conversation between leaders will take place and Sánchez will express his wish that the conflict ends, Russia recognizes the unjustified aggression and therefore returns to the situation prior to the outbreak of the conflict, more than a year ago.

When asked if he would like this ceasefire to take place during the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, which will take place in the second half of this year, the minister replied that he would like it to take place immediately and thus put an end to a war that is generating devastating consequences. However, he has specified that this still requires a lot of diplomatic work.

In addition, he has affirmed that the trip takes place at the invitation of Xi to Sánchez and that it is a clear example of the weight that the head of the Executive has in the world and Spain in international relations. In his opinion, for this reason the Chinese president wants Sánchez's opinion and invites him on this trip.

Thus, he has indicated that it will serve to strengthen bilateral relations between the two states, to explain the vision of the Spanish Presidency of the EU and also to strengthen economic relations between Spanish companies and Chinese companies that want to invest.

Sánchez's trip will take place after Xi Jinping went to Moscow this week to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who did not rule out the "Chinese plan" to achieve peace in Ukraine. He further noted that "it could serve as a basis for finding a political solution" to the war.

A month ago, the head of the Executive traveled to Ukraine again to meet with the Ukrainian president, Volodmir Zelenski, on the first anniversary of the start of the war and stated that Spain would be on Ukraine's side until the war ended.
