Bernd Reichart: "The Super League is not dead, it is very much alive"

MADRID, 16 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The CEO of A22 Sports Management -the company in charge of launching the Super League-, Bernd Reichart, insisted this Friday that the European Super League "is not dead, but is very much alive", after the "opinion" of the General Advocate of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), before the judgment in the spring of 2023.

"It is an opinion of the General Advocate, the sentence will arrive in the spring of next year. The Super League is not dead, it is very much alive," Reichart asserted at the New Economy Forum Information Breakfast.

The event was attended by the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, and the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, clubs behind the European Super League project, together with Juventus. The former president of the Italian club Andrea Agnelli was also invited, but in the end he did not attend due to a problem with his flight from Turin. In addition, the president of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo, also attended the Mandarín Oriental Ritz Hotel, although he did not witness the event.

Reichart explained that the "mission" of the project is "clear: improve European football competitions and develop proposals "to solve football problems". "It is very necessary and requires an open dialogue with all parties. First the clubs, grow in an innovative system, restore enthusiasm to the fans and find economic stability," he recounted.

"The UEFA system has been applied for 70 years, some clubs fear sanctions, although less and less. In recent weeks we have spoken with more than 30 clubs and they share our diagnosis of the problems in European football. They know that the changes are much needed, they confirm that we should not continue in this direction. The clubs want to be the owners of their own destiny", he stressed.

Reichart recalled that the Super League project "is not elitist or for the rich" and charged against the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas. "Every time he talks we learn more about our own project," he joked about the study presented with KPMG on the possible losses and damages that the possible competition would generate.

"We have not proposed a format, we have tried to evaluate the numbers and we do not understand it (KPMG study), they have had to invent a format. We have said that it will be an open competition and during the week, they turn a deaf ear and are alarmist. I do not understand why that Tebas celebrates the opinion of the General Advocate, it is compatible to continue playing the national league and the Super League," he added.
