Barça celebrates that the new Sports Law does not allow LaLiga to "expropriate" its commercial rights

The FC Barcelona has shown this Wednesday his "satisfaction" before the rejection in the commission of Culture and Sport of the Congress of the Deputies of the amendment in the article 89 of the Project of the Law of the Sport promoted by LaLiga, "contrary to the interests of club" and for which the employers "intended to expropriate" their commercial rights, according to a statement from the Catalan entity.

"FC Barcelona expresses its satisfaction with the vote that took place yesterday in the Culture and Sports Committee of Congress, meeting to issue an opinion on the Draft Sports Law, where an overwhelming majority of political parties voted against an amendment to the Article 89 of the Sports Law Project, an amendment promoted by LaLiga, which was contrary to the interests of the club and whose approval could have endangered its future," read the note issued by the club.

According to Barça, this amendment to article 89 "was intended to alter the powers that LaLiga has in economic matters" and that for the Barça entity "correspond exclusively to the clubs." In addition, they note that he also aspired to "subsequently correct some of the alleged irregularities" of the agreement between LaLiga and the CVC investment fund, pending a judicial resolution, after being challenged in court by Athletic Club, Real Madrid and Barça itself .

"FC Barcelona celebrates that its commercial rights are not allowed to be expropriated, as LaLiga intended. Commercial rights are the entity's main source of income, since the club model, owned by its members, does not allow injections of external capital, as is the case of public limited sports companies. The approval of the amendment promoted by LaLiga could have put the viability of our club, with almost 123 years of history, at risk", explained the club chaired by Joan Laporta.

Also, in the statement, FC Barcelona deepened by ensuring that the amendment promoted by LaLiga was based on a story "that is not true when stating that 'in recent years some clubs within the professional leagues have pressed to oversize their audiovisual income' ".

"The reality is that FC Barcelona has practically the same income as before Royal Decree Law 5/2015, of April 30, while the rest of the clubs - with the exception of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona - have doubled their income in the same period," he added.

Faced with this situation, the Blaugrana entity urged the LaLiga teams to "seek joint and supportive solutions, without invading the rights of the more than 31,000 federated clubs that also legitimately aspire to be part of LaLiga in the next 50 years", in reference a a duration of the agreement with CVC.

"For this reason, Barça reaches out to the other sports entities in the search for alternative sources of resources, such as when FC Barcelona recently opted for another route that, in addition to being legal, and for half the term, implies much better economic conditions. better than those achieved between LaLiga and the CVC investment funds," the statement concluded.

The future new Sports Law received this Tuesday the approval of the Culture and Sports Commission of the Congress of Deputies, where the political parties approved two of the amendments that most concerned LaLiga, related to the commercial rights of the clubs, and removed the possibility of a possible strike.

The two were approved by the deputies in a long session lasting more than four hours, but, on the other hand, the other one that worried the employers did not go ahead and that was related to the project of the European Super League, which would not have opposition in this new legislation.
