Atlético goes through suffering before a combative Arenteiro

Carrasco, with two goals, and Pablo Barrios came from behind to advance to the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey

MADRID, 22 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Atlético de Madrid fulfilled their return to competition after the World Cup in Qatar and beat Arenteiro (1-3) in Espiñedo, to advance to the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, after coming back from an even match with a lot of intensity, thanks to double goals from Carrasco and the goal from Pablo Barrios.

With an eleven full of headlines and with the return of the World Cup players, the team led by Diego Pablo Simeone did not fail in their litmus test, against a fierce rival who put up a battle. The youth squad's great goal in the second half gave life to a rojiblanco team that suffered not to lose their cup ambitions, after their European elimination and their bad first round in LaLiga.

Thus, the initial momentum of the locals put the rojiblanco team in serious trouble, at least during the first twenty minutes. Although the colchoneros showed their quality with some approach, it was not until minute 25 that the first opportunity came. Morata hit a good shot in the heart of the area, but the well-placed Galician goalkeeper saved the ball.

From there, the 'Cholo' Simeone decided to take a step forward and put all their game into the opposite field. On the wings of Marcos Llorente and Yannick Carrasco, Atlético tried to hurt a strong Galician defense that defended itself tooth and nail throughout the first half. Thus, the visitors came to have two clear ones in Morata's boots, but the Madrid striker was not successful in the one-on-one.

However, the team led by Javi Rey, who was sent off after an early dispute with the referee, knew how to play their cards to get ahead in the light. Marquitos opened the scoring to the joy of the local fans after controlling a ball with his chest that later stung over Oblak. A goal that was of little use to the locals since just four minutes later Atlético hit back.

Carrasco did not fail from eleven meters to return the tables to the scoreboard, after a grab in the area on José María Giménez, which the referee did not hesitate to award a penalty. All this before ending a very even first half, which allowed the locals to arrive alive at half-time.

With the resumption, the local intensity seemed to slow down thanks to an Atlético de Madrid that launched itself for the match. After the hour of play, the visitors once again had the opportunity from the penalty spot, after a fall inside the area by Carrasco, but the Galician goalkeeper guessed the shot to Álvaro Morata.

We had to wait until the 75th minute for, then yes, the 'Cholo' Simeone team to find the goal prize in the boots of Pablo Barrios. The rojiblanco youth squad hit a left-footed shot from the edge that Diego García, deep in goal, was unable to clear.

Arenteiro kept trying in the final moments, but Carrasco's individual quality ended up decanting the match to put an end to the cupbearer dream of the Galicians. The Belgian put a stop to the hopes of Arenteiro, a RFEF Second Division team, after sentencing the counter and leaving the goalkeeper seated at 1-3.
