Asturias raises the marine pollution plan to level 2 due to the "generalized" appearance of pellets along the entire coast

OVIEDO, 9 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Development, Local Cooperation and Fire Prevention, Alejandro Calvo, has decreed, at 10:24 a.m., the transition to situation 2 of the Territorial Contingency Plan for Accidental Marine Pollution in the Principality of Asturias (Placampa) in the face of the "widespread appearance" of microplastics in the sands of the entire Asturian coast.

As reported by the Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias (SEPA) in a press release, situation 2 allows the incorporation of means other than municipal resources into the cleaning and removal device, including state resources and their coordination through the Operational Coordination Center. Integrated, where the different administrations involved are represented.

The first information about the appearance of these microplastics on the Asturian coast was provided by the Government of the Xunta de Galicia on January 5. That same day, the Asturian Executive assured that it was monitoring the arrival of these pellets, coming from a ship that lost part of its cargo off Portugal.

The Principality activated its marine pollution plan this Monday, after confirming the arrival of these products on several beaches on the western Asturian coast.
