ArcelorMittal to build Asia's first Hyperloop facilities in India

MADRID, 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Steel giant ArcelorMittal has established a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) for the construction of Asia's first Hyperloop testing facility in which the Indian Ministry of Railways is also collaborating.

ArcelorMittal and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS) will provide materials and engineering resources for the construction of the facility at IIT Madras' Discovery Campus in Thaiyur, outside Chennai, India, which is expected to be operational by the end of the year. first quarter of 2024.

Specifically, AM/NS India is supplying nearly 400 tonnes of steel for the fabrication of a 400-metre vacuum tube at the site, in which autonomous levitating capsules will be tested at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

AMDEC, the design and engineering division of ArcelorMittal based in India, is assigning experienced engineers to the Hyperloop team to help monitor the progress of the project and provide design and engineering expertise during the installation process.

After completing the proof of concept phase, the next stage would be the development of an operational demonstration route for a real-world use case to validate the techno-commercial perspectives of this Hyperloop technology, the multinational has explained.

“This is a hugely exciting project to be part of,” said Pinakin Chaubal, chief technology officer at ArcelorMittal, for whom Hyperloop represents a mobility transition industry in which steel would have an important role to play.
