Aragonès, in the Senate: "The amnesty is no longer unconstitutional and impossible as it will happen with the referendum"

He also defends his unique financing proposal and is committed to bilateralism with the Government as the "key" to achieve it.

The president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, assured this Monday in the Senate that the amnesty is the "way to repair much of the pain caused by the repression", predicting that "it will be accepted sooner or later." That said, he has been convinced that, just as happened with the amnesty, the referendum will no longer be "unconstitutional" for the Government of Pedro Sánchez.

"The amnesty, overnight, ceased to be unconstitutional, it ceased to be impossible, as will happen with the referendum," he stated, adding that "sooner or sooner, it will be accepted as the way to resolve the conflict." of sovereignty between Catalonia and the State".

This is how Aragonès spoke during his speech in the General Commission of the Autonomous Communities of the Senate, which was convened by the PP to talk about the proposed amnesty law.

From here, the Catalan president has been in charge of defending the amnesty law, while insisting on his referendum proposal and his unique financing approach for Catalonia, reminding Pedro Sánchez's Executive that they already rejected the amnesty and in the end will be approved.

"We can find many examples of Government ministers, of leaders of the PSOE and the PSC. They all said that it was impossible, that it was unconstitutional, that it has no place in the legal system (...) We all know that if we are here today it is because "The overnight amnesty was no longer unconstitutional, it was no longer impossible, as will happen with the referendum," he proclaimed.

In this context, Aragonès has claimed his presence in this forum of regional presidents to "defend" Catalonia "in the face of hatred and contempt." Subsequently, he has listed different statements by 'barons' of the PP and the PSOE against the amnesty, describing them as "nonsense."

"The amnesty, above all things, is an amendment to the entirety of an unjust sentence, to the illegitimacy of legal and police repression. The Amnesty Law is the victory of the free Catalonia that we defend," Aragonès said. .

The 'president' has ironically said that the person who "best understood" the meaning of the amnesty has been the former president of the Government José María Aznar when he assured that this norm will legitimize the secessionist coup: "It is exactly that. No one can see their limits limited. freedom for their democratic commitment".

THE PATH TO THE REFERENDUM

Likewise, Aragonès has proclaimed from the Senate that the amnesty "is the way" to "consolidate the path of negotiation" that concludes in the self-determination referendum: "We are opening a new stage of negotiation."

Next, he referred to the investiture agreements between the PSOE and ERC, emphasizing that the Government of Catalonia "is convinced that what best represents the majority will is a referendum in Catalonia on independence."

"They are going to tell us once again that it is impossible, that it is unconstitutional, but the amnesty was also unconstitutional until we managed to change their minds," Aragonès insisted, adding that Catalonia "aspires to decide in a referendum," as well as to "normalize the Catalan language in the face of any threat."

IT ALSO DEFENDS A "UNIQUE" FINANCING

Aragonès has assured that, "in parallel to the negotiation of the referendum", they have to "make possible a unique financing system for Catalonia." In his opinion, "it must have its own financing system" in which they "directly" manage the resources and collect all taxes. "The current financing system is an unbearable burden for Catalonia, obsolete, opaque and, above all, unfair," he proclaimed.

In this context, the Catalan president has stated that he is not going to remain "idly" in the face of the "chronic fiscal deficit" that, in his opinion, Catalonia is going through. Along these lines, he believes that "the key to singular financing is the bilateral relationship with the State, from 'you to you'."

Aragonès has also claimed from the Senate his unique financing proposal, which consists of Catalonia collecting one hundred percent of the taxes, as is already happening in the Basque Country and Navarra.

The Catalan president concluded his speech by accusing the central government of "not listening to or respecting the citizens of Catalonia."
