Andalusia asks to "lower the tone" about Doñana and it makes it ugly that the Government refuses to dialogue for "supposed illegalities"

SEVILLA, 25 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Andalusian Minister of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, considered this Tuesday that we should all "lower our tone and calm down" in relation to Doñana and regretted that the central government does not want to sit down and talk with the argument of "supposed illegalities" derived from the proposed law on irrigation in the northern crown that is being processed in the autonomous Parliament.

In statements to RNE, collected by Europa Press, Fernández-Pacheco has valued the meeting he held yesterday in Brussels with the European Commissioner for the Environment, Virginijus Sinkevicius, to address the situation of Doñana and the proposed law on irrigation in the northern crown from the park. "It has been the first opportunity that the Board has had to explain directly to the European Commission, without intermediaries and without interference, what is the ultimate goal pursued with this initiative", he indicated.

The counselor added that it is true that the European commissioner expressed his "concern" about the Doñana wetland; for the "non-compliance" by the central government with the ruling of the European Court of the year 2021, and for the "commotion" generated in Spain as a result of the Andalusian law proposal.

In this sense, he has indicated that he explained to the commissioner that it is an initiative that "absolutely harms" Doñana because there is talk of surface water that would come from other basins other than those of Doñana and whenever there is a surplus of water. "The meeting ended well; the commissioner promised to evaluate all these arguments and to have the lines of institutional collaboration open, in order to improve the national park", he pointed out.

He has regretted the attitude of the central government of not wanting to sit down and talk to the Board, when even the European commissioner has already done so, and that its members have dedicated themselves to "insulting", calling the president of the Board, Juanma Moreno, " niceties like a stalker or an Andalusian gentleman".

"Dialogue is no longer part of the road map of the Government of Pedro Sánchez in what has to do with relations with Andalusia", according to the counselor, who has stressed that the "reasonable" thing would be for the national Executive to sit down to talk with the Board.

Asked if there is a possibility that the bill will be withdrawn, he explained that it has barely started and that it is subject to the amendments that the political groups want to propose in the parliamentary process to improve the text. He also wanted to make it clear that the Board does not have any kind of "electoral interest" in this initiative and has expressed that the PSOE-A does see it as "very nervous" about the municipal and regional elections on May 28.

On whether he believes that this debate could harm the PP in the face of May 28, he has been convinced that the PSOE's strategy involves making Doñana and the situation of farmers a national matter of "wearing down the figure of Moreno "and in the image of the Popular Party.
