Ancelotti: "They played better than us and when that happens they deserve to win"

MADRID, 7 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, acknowledged this Saturday that Villarreal was superior to his team and that they deserved victory at the Estadio de La Cerámica, at the same time that he highlighted the physical appearance of some of his players and limited himself to abiding by the referee's decision in the two handball penalties.

"The game was even and competitive. I think Villarreal played better than us and when that happens they deserve to win. We didn't defend well in our field, the team wasn't compact and they took advantage of that. They played at a high level and we don't, especially in the defensive aspect. We have left too much control, which we usually do very well", said the Italian at a press conference.

The coach pointed out the defensive aspect as the main problem for the whites at Villarreal. "It wasn't a great game on our part, especially defensively. In the opposite half we did well but in ours we had to do better. In the lower block the team was very open and they put balls between the lines That has been the problem," he said.

The Italian, aware of the lack of brilliance in this 'post-break' due to the World Cup, referred to the physical appearance of some of his players. "I see the team quite fresh, the physical aspect seems good to me, but they don't all have the same condition. I don't think it was a physical problem, in the last part we pushed a lot and we fought until the end", he indicated.

Asked about the two handball penalties, one for each team, the Real Madrid coach did not want to get into controversy and resigned himself to abide by the rule. "In the other press conference, when I said that this was not football, there was a lot of trouble. This is football, with a rule that we have to get used to," he said.

"Football has changed, there is a clear rule. When you touch it with your hand it's a penalty, then if it slips or not, it doesn't matter. We have to get used to it. The two penalties for the rule have been correct, but I think the fans don't He likes this," he concluded.
