Almost half of Vox members do not pay dues and will not be able to vote for the new leadership

MADRID, 10 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A total of 35,548 members of the 66,949 that Vox has, which represents 53% of its membership, will be able to vote in the process to elect the president of the formation in the Extraordinary General Assembly on January 27, but the rest will be excluded from the vote. process by not being up to date with payment, not having been in service for more than nine months or being subject to administrative sanction.

Furthermore, and according to the data managed by the Electoral Committee for this electoral process, 32,690 of those 35,548 members can grant guarantees as they are members who are up to date with their payments and have been there for more than nine months. Since the census was closed on December 31, 2023, these are those who joined the party at the latest on March 31, 2023.

Thus, candidates for the presidency of Vox must present 3,269 endorsements in total, given that the party's statutes establish that applicants must obtain 10% of the support of full members.

The rest of the members, as explained by the Electoral Committee, are not part of the electoral roll as they cannot participate in the electoral process due to some incident falling on them, whether of an economic or administrative nature. Sources from the Vox management emphasize to Europa Press that the party has not lost members, but rather there has been an increase in non-payment of dues.

In the Extraordinary General Assembly, Santiago Abascal will presumably renew his leadership in the absence of other candidates, precisely because the advancement of the date of the internal congress, initially scheduled for March, practically means that some applicants will have time to gather the necessary support.

In the last Assembly, Abascal had no opponents, since the other candidate did not obtain the required endorsements, and he was re-elected without opposition.
