Albares warns of "a disturbing return to anti-Moroccan positions" by the PP

He ensures that the call for 23J does not devalue the Spanish presidency of the EU

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Government Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has warned of "a disturbing return to anti-Moroccan positions" by the PP.

"What I observe is that the PP is returning to its origins: to positions of clash with Morocco", he explained in an interview in 'La Vanguardia' collected this Saturday by Europa Press.

He has defended that "the current good relationship" with Morocco is mutually beneficial and is fundamental for Ceuta and Melilla, for the Canary Islands and also for Andalusia.

For him, the call for elections does not devalue the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU because the EU "is used to having electoral periods during six-month presidencies", and he added that the Government has made an enormous effort to make this presidency a country project.

He has said that he is surprised by the working group proposed by the PP candidate, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, given the possibility of heading the Spanish presidency of the EU if he governs after 23J because "almost all are men, and many of them were in charge of Spain's foreign policy at the time of greatest distancing between Spain and the EU, the war in Iraq".

He has accused the PP of only focusing its foreign policy program on Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua and of only conceiving of "relating with governments with which it is ideologically in tune", and has assured that for the Government all the countries of Latin America are equally important and who seeks relationships built on common values

Asked if the war in Ukraine is the cause of the results of the 28M and the electoral advance, Albares has denied it and added that "Spain has complied with its obligation as a member country of the EU" and has faced the adverse economic and war social.

Regarding his perspective on the war, he lamented that "Putin shows no signs of wanting to withdraw his troops" and added that Spain will be committed to Ukraine for as long as it takes.
