Add file to Nacho Álvarez, position of Podemos and Secretary of State with Belarra, as economic spokesman

Díaz claims that they are forming a first-rate team for the elections

The Secretary of State for Social Rights and leader of Podemos, Nacho Álvarez, joins the Sumar team, the instrumental party promoted by Yolanda Díaz, to be its spokesperson for the economic area of the campaign team for the 23J elections.

As the instrumental party has transferred, Álvarez will also direct Sumar's proposals in terms of social, economic and welfare state policies.

Currently, Álvarez is part of the Executive of the purple party, as Secretary of the Economy of Podemos since its creation, and is one of the main collaborators of Minister Ione Belarra in Social Rights.

From Sumar they praise that Álvarez is a "reference economist" in Spain, who will reinforce his commitment "to continue expanding social rights, make a great fiscal revolution" in Spain and "bet on an economic policy that generates quality jobs".

The economy is one of the main axes of the candidacy for these elections and, in this sense, it has already incorporated the director of the CCOO's economic cabinet, Carlos Martín, as number six on the list for Congress for Madrid with a view to becoming the economic referent of the future parliamentary group. In this way, both will form a pairing in the face of the economic proposals of the coalition, made up of fifteen progressive parties.

During his work in the Ministry, Álvarez together with Belarra have focused on increasing investment in dependency matters and reducing waiting lists and he was one of the negotiators for the confederal space, in the technical section, for negotiations with the PSOE of the general budgets.

Recently, Álvarez together with the leader of Podemos presented one of the main measures of Podemos for this electoral cycle, which was the deployment of a guaranteed income of between 700 and 1,400 euros per month from the age of 18, and that the party had already raised in previous years.

At a press conference after participating in a meeting with several Ibero-American labor ministers, Díaz thanked Álvarez for his affirmative response to joining Sumar, which is being nurtured by a team of "top-level" professionals.

In addition, he has stated that he will not only be Sumar's economic spokesman but will also be in charge of representing Sumar in the debates that are organized on this area. Likewise, the candidate for the Presidency of the Government has highlighted that Sumar is already prepared for the electoral campaign.

Sumar has also captured some profiles associated with the purple party for his campaign team, such as the MEP and head of United Podemos lists in the last community elections of 2019, Maria Eugenia Rodríguez Palop as coordinator of the electoral program, as well as other positions that were linked to We can like the former leader of the Pablo Bustinduy formation.

In addition, it has recovered the former general secretary of Podemos Euskadi Lander Martínez for the electoral lists for Vizcaya, who resigned from his position in 2020 and in his day was considered close to the 'errejonista' sector.

ECONOMIST VALUED BY IGLESIAS AND WE CAN

Former Vice President Pablo Iglesias appointed Álvarez as Secretary of State in 2019, along with Belarra, who until his departure from politics was Secretary of State for the 2030 Agenda.

Álvarez is one of the figures valued in the party, as revealed, for example, that he obtained a position in the Podemos Executive after the Vistalegre II Assembly in 2017, despite the fact that he did not appear to be part of the leadership, after giving a step back due to the then internal confrontation between Iglesias and the former leader and current leader of Más País, Íñigo Errejón.

At that time, both the current Secretary of State and the former leader of Podemos Carolina Bescansa came to resign from their executive positions after not joining any list for the Vistalegre congress. Both then tried to articulate a third way for that citizen assembly that ultimately did not bear fruit.
