A judge orders LaLiga to allow Barça to register Gavi as a first-team player

The club believes that the decision not to register him "is arbitrary, not justified and responds to a policy of harassment of FCB"

BARCELONA, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Barcelona Mercantile Court 12 has ordered LaLiga to allow FC Barcelona to register footballer Pablo Páez Gavira, Gavi, as a first-team player before Tuesday at midnight.

In an order issued on Monday and consulted by Europa Press, the court upholds the request for precautionary measures submitted by the club.

On January 27, Barça submitted a request for precautionary measures announcing civil actions for the defense of competition and, secondarily, unfair competition.

The precautionary measures adopted also mean suspending the decision of the LaLiga Budget Validation Body, which on January 25 denied Barça the registration in the LaLiga Manager system of the Gavi contract for the first team.

In September, the player signed his renewal for four more seasons, until June 30, 2026, with a termination clause of 1,000 million euros.

This indemnity clause is subject to the condition that the player is registered in the Barça first team before midnight on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, because that is also when the winter transfer market closes and, given the proximity of the date, the precautionary measure has been taken urgently and without waiting for the position of LaLiga.

The club maintains that it has complied with the regulatory and budgetary requirements to be able to incorporate Gavi's contract, for which reason it considers that LaLiga's refusal to register it "is arbitrary, it is not justified and responds to a policy of harassment of FCB for decisions made in other sporting and economic spheres".
