A helicopter participating in an Ifema fair crashes on the M-40 and its occupants are slightly injured

"We must congratulate ourselves because the lives of any of the three injured are not in danger," says the Security delegate of the Madrid City Council.

A private helicopter that was participating in an Ifema fair has crashed in the median of the M-40 a few minutes after taking off towards Cuatro Vientos, sources from the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) have informed Europa Press.

The plane accident, in which the two occupants were injured, occurred at kilometer 6 of the M-40 after the helicopter, model Enstrom280FX, took off after being exhibited at the European Rotors fair.

This fair is currently celebrating its third annual edition with more than 200 exhibitors and 20 helicopters, which are installed throughout the Ifema Madrid fairgrounds.

The reasons for the accident are unknown at this time. At this time, firefighters are carrying out a risk control after verifying that there is no fuel spill.

After learning what happened, the vice mayor and delegate of Security and Emergencies of the Madrid City Council, Inmaculada Sanz, has indicated that there is no more information beyond what is known and has stressed that "we must congratulate ourselves because there is no danger to the lives of "None of the three injured."

"It could have been much more serious. The investigation will tell if the driver had to land or if it was something accidental. We know that he was just leaving the fair and it was imminent," he said.

After the accident, one occupant of the helicopter got out on his own and the other was rescued by Madrid City Council Firefighters. An ambulance from the Samur Civil Protection has taken the injured to the hospital, one of them presenting a mild head injury and the other a possible fracture of the femur.

Emergencies Madrid has confirmed that a driver who was traveling on the M-40 has suffered very minor cuts due to broken glass as a result of the impact.

CIVIL GUARD IS IN CHARGE OF ROAD SAFETY IN THE AREA

The Civil Guard is currently in charge of road safety in the area, while the National Police has been in charge of the investigation of the plane accident.

The incident has caused traffic jams in both directions, near Hortaleza, and traffic is only allowed in the right lane. The DGT recommends avoiding the M-40 due to the traffic complications caused by the accident.
