60 arrested in Brussels for the riots after Morocco's move to the semifinals

BRUSSELS, Dec. 11 (dpa/EP) -

Police have arrested a total of 60 people in Brussels for the riots that occurred after Morocco qualified for the World Cup semifinals in Qatar.

As reported on Sunday by the Belgian news agency 'Belga', citing a police spokesman, the detained individuals used large-scale pyrotechnics to celebrate the Moroccans' 1-0 victory over Portugal. In addition, small groups threw objects at the police.

At first, the celebrations began peacefully, but then the atmosphere changed, according to 'Belga'. There had already been riots by Moroccan supporters in Brussels during previous North African victories.
