The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, will travel accompanied by eight of his ministers to the Spanish-German summit this Wednesday in Coruña in a sign of the importance of bilateral relations and the will to continue deepening them, explained the German ambassador in Madrid , Maria Gosse, in an interview with Europa Press.

"Scholz travels accompanied by a large part of the cabinet and that is not at all frequent," the ambassador stressed, noting that this level of "government consultations" Germany only has with a few countries such as France or Israel.

Gosse acknowledges the good relationship between Sánchez and Scholz, mainly motivated by the fact that both are part of the European social-democratic family, but also stresses that there are "very good bilateral relations" in many areas that have been strengthened over the years. last years.

With this summit, he specifies, what is sought is to go even further. For this reason, he specified, work has been carried out in recent months on an "action plan" that addresses the different fields of bilateral cooperation and that seeks to "identify specific projects" in which Spain and Germany can work together.

"It is in this context that you have to see Midcat," said Gosse, referring to the gas pipeline that would link Spain and France through Catalonia.

Scholz has openly expressed his support for completing this unfinished project, which has been claimed by Sánchez and with him by the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, but the French President, Emmanuel Macron, does not consider that infrastructure is the best solution to the current energy crisis current.

According to the ambassador, Germany is committed to "improving the supply and diversifying the networks" but that these serve to be used in the future for green hydrogen. "That has to be the long-term objective", she has stressed, although right now to guarantee the supply it is possible to temporarily opt to return to energies that were already being abandoned, such as nuclear.

As for France's reticence, he considered that since there are more and more interested countries, it will surely be possible to "find the way" once the specific concerns of the French Government are known, while at the same time he stressed that the dialogue continues and the The project has not been entirely ruled out.
