MADRID, 15 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

At least 32 people have died, twenty have been injured and another hundred have disappeared due to flooding in Parwan province, in northern Afghanistan.

The provincial director of the department of information and culture, Shamsulhaq Sediqi, has told the DPA agency that a hundred buildings have been partially or completely destroyed, as well as the main access roads to the Sya Gird and Shinwari districts.

The inhabitants of the region have also seen how the rains have affected their land and livestock. Parwan has not been the only province affected by these floods, since the authorities of Kapisa, Panjshir and Nangarhar have also reported deaths and significant damage.

"The situation is serious. We demand national and international agencies to provide emergency assistance to avert another humanitarian catastrophe," claimed Kapisa's director of information and culture, Karimullah Wasiq.

The situation could worsen in the coming days as more rain is expected. Despite the fact that this type of flooding is common during this time of the year, already in 2020 almost a hundred people died in Parwan, decades of conflict have prevented local authorities from taking precautions.

In a country devastated by war and internal conflicts, the United Nations estimates that some 200,000 people are vulnerable to natural disasters of this type.
