MADRID, 29 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Popular Party has recovered its hegemony at the regional level with the Community of Madrid, where it has achieved an absolute majority, as the main bastion, although it will need to agree with Vox to manage to govern in six territories.

The formation led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo has the possibility of reaching the autonomous government in nine different regions. In addition to the Community of Madrid, the party has gained an absolute majority in La Rioja.

In the regional elections held this Sunday, the PP has managed to be the most supported formation in Aragon, Cantabria, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community, the Community of Madrid, La Rioja and the Region of Murcia.

In Extremadura, where it has tied for seats with the PSOE --although with fewer votes--, it could come to power if it joins the support of Vox.

In the Canary Islands, in addition, the 'popular' could seek a pact with the Canarian Coalition despite the fact that the PSOE has been the list with the most votes.

The PP has turned the map around with respect to the regional elections held in May 2019, when the PSOE prevailed as the most voted force in 11 of the 12 regions in which there were elections. The only exception occurred in Cantabria, where the PRC was the most supported list.

At that time, the PSOE was victorious in Aragon, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Castilla y León, the Community of Madrid, Navarra, Murcia and La Rioja. In Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, moreover, the party led by Pedro Sánchez achieved an absolute majority.

In the Valencian Community, where the elections were held a month before -in April 2019- the PSOE also prevailed as the most voted list above the PP.

It should be remembered that in the Community of Madrid the regional president agreed to advance the elections. In the elections held in 2021, the PP of Isabel Díaz Ayuso clearly prevailed, winning 65 seats out of the 136 at stake and achieving a majority thanks to Vox's 13 seats. More Madrid was made with 24 parliamentarians, the same as the PSOE, which obtained 7,000 fewer votes.

This is the situation of the twelve autonomous communities that have held elections this Sunday, with the scrutiny close to its end:
