Zelensky urges the countries gathered in Ramstein to make decisions on sending tanks to Ukraine

"We have to speed up and the Kremlin must lose," stressed the Ukrainian president

BRUSSELS, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has demanded this Friday that the countries of the Contact Group for Ukraine that meet at the Ramstein military base, in Germany, make decisions about the supply of battle tanks in Ukraine, after noting that it is in his hand helping the Ukrainian victory over Russia.

In a videoconference message, Zelenski has addressed the coalition of 40 countries led by the United States to urge them to "make decisions" that may have important consequences for the course of the war in Ukraine. "You can start this policy today, it is in your hand," he stressed.

The Ukrainian president has stressed that steps must be taken to allow the supply of tanks to kyiv, insisting that more than "negotiating on the number of tanks" what is important right now is "opening up the supply" of this weapon which, in his opinion , "will stop the Russian evil."

"We have to speed up and the Kremlin must lose," Zelensky stressed, who apart from the issue of tanks, has called for more long-range artillery and ammunition.

Everything to conclude that the victory of the Ukrainians on the battlefield "is in the hands" of this coalition of countries that supports kyiv. The meeting this Friday in Ramstein seems key to the international reinforcement of military support for Ukraine and comes in the middle of a debate on how to respond to the military demands of kyiv, which is demanding that the global community send tanks to continue the fighting against Russia in the Donbas region.

Germany, the manufacturer of the 'Leopard' battle tanks, has to authorize the shipment to a third country, an issue that has generated internal tensions in the country about the advisability of taking the step and also with European partners such as Poland and the Baltics, who demand determined actions to Berlin to stop the Russian troops.

For their part, the NATO military commanders assured this Thursday that Ukraine needs tanks to match the Russian forces on the ground and that it is an important resource for kyiv to recover its territory occupied by Russia.

This Friday is the eighth in a series of meetings of the Contact Group for Ukraine, founded in April 2022 at the initiative of Washington, to discuss current and future efforts to support Ukraine in maintaining its sovereignty.
