Zelensky dismisses the commander of the Joint Forces in the Donbas region

MADRID, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, has dismissed the commander of the Joint Forces in the Donbas region, in the east of the country, amid the upsurge in fighting in the area and the progress made in recent weeks by the Russian troops.

The Ukrainian Presidency has published on its website a brief decree by Zelenski that contemplates the dismissal of Eduard Moskaliov, who held the position since March 2022, without detailing the reasons for the decision. Moskaliov took office days after the start of the invasion, unleashed on February 24, 2022.

Russian forces, backed by mercenaries from the Wagner Group, have made several advances in recent weeks in the Donetsk region as they try to seize the city of Bakhmut, one of their main targets in eastern Ukraine.
