US Congress approves release of Trump's tax documents

MADRID, 21 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A panel of the United States House of Representatives has approved this Tuesday to make public the tax documents of former President Donald Trump from 2015 to 2020.

The House Umpires and Means Committee vote has passed with all Democratic representatives voting in favor and all Republican lawmakers voting against, CNN reported.

The information on Trump's taxes could be available as early as Wednesday, coinciding with the final report on the storming of the Capitol, as it is the last days of Democratic control of the House before the Republicans take power.

This measure could put an end to years of speculation about what his business and personal wealth could reveal, NBC has reported.

The Democratic parliamentarian Brendan Boyle has explained that making these documents public, which will also be transmitted in the plenary session of the House, "it will take between a few days and a week" to write "certain information."

For his part, Republican representative Kevin Brady has criticized the measure of the Democrats and has indicated that it could provoke threats and retaliation. Thus, he has attacked Democrats for using Trump's tax information as a weapon.

Brady has pointed out that the publication would amount to "a dangerous new political weapon that goes far beyond the former president and nullifies decades of privacy protections for average Americans that have existed since the Watergate Reform", as CNN has reported.

"We are united in our concern that Democrats could move forward today with unprecedented action that will jeopardize the right of all Americans to be protected from political attacks by Congress," he continued.
