Two police officers killed in a chase in Bogotá, Colombia

MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Two police officers died this Sunday while chasing alleged criminals in the municipality of Bosa, in the southwest of Bogotá, Colombia.

The fatalities have been identified as subintendent José Alirio Sánchez Ojeda and patrolman Gustavo David Bohórquez Chanchila.

The Bogota Metropolitan Police has confirmed to RCN Radio that both officers died at the scene. In addition, the police force has announced that it is offering a reward of up to 200 million Colombian pesos (about 400,000 euros) for information that allows the identification and location of the suspects.

"Criminals with firearms perpetrated this act that we repudiate and regret. But we are going to go to the last consequences to locate and capture these criminals," said a spokesperson for the capital's Police.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has indicated that he has requested that those responsible for the event be identified and prosecuted.

"The murders of subintendent José Sánchez and patrolman Gustavo Bohórquez of the Bogotá Police will not go unpunished," he added.

The mayoress of Bogotá, Claudia López Hernández, has asked the judicial bodies "to give full priority to the investigation." "All my solidarity and the accompaniment that our Police need to clarify the facts," she expressed in a message on her Twitter social network profile.
