Transfer to Poland of German Patriot defense systems begins

MADRID, 23 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The German Army has begun this Monday to transfer the first two squadrons of the Patriot air defense system to Poland with the aim of guaranteeing security on the border of the allied country and NATO.

An Armed Forces convoy has left early in the morning from the city of Gnoin, in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, in the northeast of the country, with two of the three systems that Germany plans to send, according to information from the newspaper 'Die Welt'. It is a convoy of about 40 vehicles and 150 troops.

It is planned that these systems will be transferred to the city of Zamosc, in south-eastern Poland, which is located about 60 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and 110 kilometers from the town of Lviv.

The convoy will have to travel about 1,100 kilometers to reach its destination. The German military moved to Poland on January 16 to guarantee the installation of part of the system components, a task for which they have had the help of the Polish military.

Germany offered to send these systems to Poland after two people died in early November after a missile fell on Polish territory.
