'Time' chooses Zelensky and the 'spirit of Ukraine' as the most relevant person of the year

MADRID, 7 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The American magazine 'Time' has proclaimed this Wednesday the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, as the most relevant personality of the year, in a decision that they consider to be clear and that responds to the Ukrainian resistance against the invasion launched by Russia in February.

"It's the most obvious decision I can remember," says the editor of the publication, Edward Felsenthal, who sees Zelenski as a symbol not only for his country but also for the whole world. He praises his leadership skills and his use of new communication tools, while accusing him of downplaying the risks of the invasion that finally did take place.

The publication also values the so-called 'spirit of Ukraine', which includes the capacity for resistance and resilience of a population that, regardless of difficulties, has made a common front in the military field but also in the social sphere.

"For showing that courage can be as contagious as fear, for encouraging people and countries to unite in defense of freedom, for reminding the world of the fragility of democracy and peace, Volodymyr Zelensky and the spirit of Ukraine are the person of the year for 'Time", he explains in an article.

Zelenski succeeds businessman Elon Musk and the main political leaders of the United States, President Joe Biden and his 'number two' Kamala Harris on this list.
