The US Supreme Court cautiously maintains the rule that allows the immediate expulsion of migrants

MADRID, 20 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The US Supreme Court has temporarily stayed the expiration of Title 42, a controversial health order by former President Donald Trump that allowed authorities to immediately remove migrants from US borders, and which was scheduled to end on December 21.

The president of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, has communicated in a brief order the permanence of the rule this Monday, thus responding to the request of the attorneys general of Texas and 18 other states led by the Republican Party to maintain the rule.

Roberts has given the Biden Administration until before 5:00 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday to respond to the appeal filed by the Republican states.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who has taken up the states' proposal, said in a statement Monday that "getting rid of Title 42 will recklessly and needlessly endanger more Americans and immigrants by exacerbating the catastrophe that is happening on our southern border".

Likewise, he added that it is estimated that illegal crossings will increase "from 7,000 per day to 18,000," according to CNN.

To date, more than 2.4 million people have been removed, the majority from the southern border of the United States, since the Trump administration put the emergency order into effect in March 2020, citing the measure as a tool effective against the spread of the coronavirus, has affirmed 'The Washington Post'.
