The US believes that Germany could give the green light to the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine "in the next few hours"

MADRID, 24 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United States has defended this Monday the commitment of Germany in its support to Ukraine against the invasion of Russia, highlighting the possibility that in the next hours or days it will grant permission to third countries to deliver German-made Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian Army.

"We have no doubt that Germany is a reliable ally on this front and on all fronts," US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press conference.

Asked about the discussion in recent weeks about Germany's refusal to hand over its Leopard tanks to Ukraine, the State Department spokesman pointed out that, after seeing the latest headlines regarding this matter, "it is possible" that " hear more" from the Germans in the next few hours or days.

In this sense, he has assured that many people would not have believed all the contribution that Germany has made so far if they had known about it the day the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, on February 24, 2022.

For this reason, he has listed some of the systems that Germany has provided to date, which include, among others, the IRIS-T anti-missile system, the MLRS rocket launch systems, the Patriot missile battery, in addition to "everything else that Germany has spoken in the last 11 months."

In this sense, Price has pointed out that "Ukraine has tanks", stating that he does not want the "erroneous" perception that the Ukrainian Army does not have this type of weaponry.

He also brought to the present that the United States has already helped Ukraine obtain tanks. "We've worked with them to get Russian and Soviet-made tanks that they're already trained on, they know how to use, they can use it right away, they can repair it, they can keep it operational, and most importantly, they can be effective with it," Price said. .

"We will continue to do our part to provide Ukraine with what it needs," said the State Department spokesman, recalling that it has given weapons to the Ukrainian Army up to 30 times, all worth billions of dollars.
