The US and Ukraine value new actions against Russian troops in light of the situation in the city of Bakhmut

MADRID, 9 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ukrainian authorities held a telephone conversation with their American counterparts on Wednesday, in which they analyzed the latest developments in the war and the relationship between the two countries, focusing on new actions against Russian troops.

In particular, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, and the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, have briefed US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, explaining the Ukrainian positions on the front, especially in the city of Bakhmut, as well as the defensive positions in the Donetsk region.

The Ukrainians have also wanted to convey a message of gratitude to the citizens of the United States and the Biden administration for their collaboration in the efforts to vacate the Ukrainian territories.

For their part, the Americans have stressed the importance of continuing to offer this military and economic support to Ukraine.

The talk is part of Ukraine's efforts to maintain a direct line of communication with its allies, according to a statement from the Ukrainian presidential office.

This call came on the same day that the Wagner Group announced that Russian troops control the entire eastern part of the city of Bakhmut, a town considered a key strategic point to continue advancing towards other areas currently under the control of Ukrainian troops. .

Likewise, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has warned that the city of Bakhmut, the scene of heavy fighting between Ukraine and Russia, may fall into the hands of the Russian Army in the coming days. "This does not necessarily have to reflect a turning point in the war, but it underlines that we cannot underestimate Russia and we have to continue sending support to Ukraine," said the NATO political chief.
