The United States urges Kosovo and Serbia to make concessions so as not to jeopardize "decades of peace"

MADRID, 22 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of the United States has made an appeal on Monday to Kosovo and Serbia to make concessions and not endanger "decades of peace", all after the lack of agreement at their meeting in Brussels to resolve the controversy over license plates.

"The United States is disappointed that the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia have not reached an agreement today with the High Representative of the EU, (Josep) Borrell, on a solution to the current crisis in Kosovo," the State Department of United States in a statement.

In this sense, the US Administration has urged the Kosovar Prime Minister, Albin Kurt, and the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, to work with Borrell to reach "a fair compromise".

"Both Prime Minister Kurti and President Vucic will need to make concessions to ensure we do not jeopardize decades of hard-won peace in an already fragile region. We join the EU in calling on Kosovo to immediately suspend any planned measures that escalate tensions, including the imposition of fines on vehicles," the State Department statement said.

Still, the United States has called on both sides to refrain from taking "provocative steps" and to honor their obligations under the EU-facilitated dialogue.
