The United States announced this Wednesday, on the occasion of International Women's Day, new sanctions --approved together with the EU, the United Kingdom and Australia-- against Iran for Human Rights abuses by the Iranian authorities in the framework of the repression of the protests that broke out after the death of the young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini.

The objective of these sanctions is "to promote accountability for the Iranian regime's continued human rights abuses, particularly against women and girls," reads a statement published by the US State Department.

"The United States remains deeply concerned that the Iranian authorities continue to suppress dissent and peaceful protests, including through mass arrests, show trials, hasty executions, the detention of journalists, and the use of sexual violence as a means to suppress protests," it said. you can read in the letter.

The Treasury Department has imposed the measures against a senior official, two prison directors for their alleged complicity in the mistreatment of inmates in custody, two senior officials of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, three companies that supply products to security forces , as well as the heads of these companies.
