MADRID, 18 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, has called this Saturday for an end to the "unfair persecution" of the founder of the Wikileaks organization, Julian Assange, who has been in custody in a maximum security prison in the United Kingdom since April 2019.

"Today we received representatives of Wikileaks. We agree that one of the foundations of democracy is not to condemn the right to tell the truth, as unfortunately happens with the journalist Julian Assange. We hope that his unjust persecution ends soon," the president said. Bolivian in his message on social networks.

Assange is a journalist, activist and founder of Wikileaks, a portal that since 2006 has been in charge of leaking documents classified as confidential material in which numerous violations of Human Rights have been revealed.

As detailed by the organization in a recently released statement, Assange "has been charged in the United States for disseminating information about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and torture programs. He faces a sentence of 175 years in prison."
