The Palestinian government denounces the execution of a young man at the hands of an Israeli policeman in the West Bank

MADRID, 3 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Palestinian Authority has denounced that a 23-year-old man was executed in cold blood this past Friday during an Israeli operation in the West Bank city of Hawara, near Nablus, in an incident recorded on video that has sparked the anger of the population.

"It is an atrocious crime within the series of crimes that are committed daily against our people," as denounced by the Presidency in a statement collected by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

"These crimes, which have become official policy of successive Israeli governments, require urgent intervention to provide international protection to our defenseless people," he said, before condemning the "silence" of the international community.

The lack of reporting "has led to the commission of this type of crime in cold blood. The constant impunity and lack of accountability has encouraged these governments to commit more crimes against our population," he laments.

Israeli police, for their part, said the Palestinian was armed with a knife. He had first tried to get into the vehicle of an Israeli couple. The driver, an Army officer on leave, then shot him, but was unable to stop him from stabbing someone nearby.

Another police officer tried to stop the attacker, according to the images captured on video and collected by the DPA agency, at the beginning of a fight between the two, in which two other men also participate.

According to the Israeli Police, the Palestinian tried to snatch the assault rifle from the agent. You can see how the gun falls to the ground. The policeman, who claimed to fear for his life, then pulled out a pistol and shot the young Palestinian.

The young man, identified as Amar Hamdi Muflé, was shot at least four times, according to the Palestinian government, before denouncing that the Israeli military prevented Palestinian ambulances from reaching the scene.

The special envoy of the UN, Tor Wennesland, has declared himself "horrified" by the murder of the Palestinian. "These types of incidents must be fully and quickly investigated, and those responsible must be held accountable," he said on his Twitter account.

The European Union, in a tweet released tonight by its Jerusalem office, expressed grave concern over the escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, adding that 2022 is the deadliest year since 2006.

The death toll since the beginning of this year has reached 211, including 159 in the West Bank and 52 in the Gaza Strip, the latest of which is the young Muffle.
