The number of deaths from the Indonesian earthquake rises to 318

The number of deaths from the earthquake last Monday in Indonesia has already risen to 318 people, while another 14 remain missing, as reported by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in a statement shared this Saturday.

The latest lifeless bodies found correspond to eight people declared missing after the earthquake that has left a total of 7,729 people injured, of which 545 have presented serious damage after the event. According to the latest report, 108 people remain in treatment for serious injuries.

In addition, the earthquake has left 73,693 residents displaced, so the BNP together with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and the United Nations Population Fund have launched a survey to determine the distribution of age, gender and number of people of vulnerable groups have been affected.

The authorities have shared that the disaggregated data shows that the number of women is higher (25,974), compared to 20,002 men, while 65 people have some type of disability.

This Saturday, the BNPB has also reported that it has deployed motorcycles to contribute to logistical work in areas of difficult access, to deliver basic necessities, such as blankets, mattresses and electric generators, among others.

The quake struck on Monday at 1:21 p.m. (local time), with its epicenter 10 kilometers south of Cianjur, according to the Indonesian National Meteorological, Geophysical and Climatological Agency (BMKG), which ruled out the risk of a tsunami. For its part, the BNPB confirmed that the quake had shaken the capital, Jakarta.
