The Chadian government lifts the suspension of seven opposition parties three months after the protests

MADRID, 22 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Chad has authorized the return to political life of seven parties suspended since last October 20 for, according to the authorities, encouraging violent protests in the country that left at least fifty dead.

The announcement was made on Friday night in a press release from the Minister of Territorial Administration, Lamine Mahamat, collected by Tchadinfos, in a decision that affects such prominent parties as Los Transformadores, of the opposition Succès Masra.

Masra reacted to the decision by answering that it is a "non-event". "We are focused on what is essential," Masra added, before declaring his intention to continue his activity against the government.

The president of the Los Patriotas party, Nasur Ibrahim Koursami, has also confirmed the reactivation of the formation "in the face of the government's inability to assume its dictatorial excesses in the face of the demands of the Chadian people and the international community."

The political violence unleashed on October 20 left at least 50 dead and more than 300 injured after the Chadian junta decided to extend the mandate of its leader, Mahamat Idriss Déby, for another two years, who initially planned to step down to return to power. to a civil government.

Déby was appointed president by the Army in 2021 after the death of his father, Idriss Déby Itno, who had led the country since 1990.
