Sweden extradites a PKK member to Turkey sentenced to six years in prison

MADRID, 3 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Swedish authorities have extradited to Turkey a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), considered by Ankara to be a terrorist organization, in the context of the Turkish government's refusal to allow Sweden to join NATO precisely for harboring to individuals wanted for their membership in this group.

The extradited has been identified as Mahmut Tat, a member of the Union of Kurdish Communities, the "umbrella" group that brings together the PKK, among others, sentenced to six years and ten months in prison in Sweden, reports the official Turkish news agency Anatolia .

Tat applied for asylum in Sweden in 2015 due to his sentence, but was denied.

Turkey alleges a lack of cooperation from Sweden and Finland when resolving the extraditions of PKK members and has denounced that both countries are not complying with the agreement signed on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid.

For this reason, it calls for accelerating the extradition of suspected terrorists claimed by the Turkish authorities as an "essential" condition to achieve NATO enlargement.
