The Polish President, Andrzej Duda, has held telephone conversations on Tuesday with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, and with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, who have shown their support for Poland after the recent accidental missile attack on a town border patrol that has claimed the lives of two people.
Specifically, the British 'premier' has reiterated the United Kingdom's solidarity with Poland as a "close ally" and has expressed his condolences for the victims and their families, according to a Downing Street statement.
In addition, Sunak has offered "all the necessary help" to urgently clarify what happened, after it became known that the missiles that hit Polish territory were Russian-made.
The leaders of the United Kingdom and Poland have agreed to remain "in close contact" and continue to coordinate with the rest of the international partners, including NATO allies, "the next steps".
Meanwhile, the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has also expressed his condolences to Duda, after the impact of missiles in the town of Przewodow.
"Germany supports its NATO partner," the German government spokesman, Steffen Hebestreit, wrote on Twitter after the call between the leaders of Germany and Poland.
During the afternoon of this Tuesday, two people died as a result of the impact of two Russian-made missiles on Polish territory. So far, the provenance of the shells is unknown, although some Baltic countries and even Ukraine have already pointed fingers at Moscow, further suggesting a collective NATO response under Article 5.
NATO's mutual defense clause establishes that an attack against one or several of its members is considered an attack against all allies. To date it has only been invoked on one occasion, after the terrorist attacks of September 11.
The incident occurs on a day in which Russia has launched a new wave of attacks on the western territory of Ukraine. kyiv, Lviv and many other cities have been the scene of Russian offensives, which have had energy infrastructure as their main objective.
