Russia accuses NATO of carrying out simulated computer attacks against its critical infrastructure

MADRID, 28 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused NATO member countries this Friday of simulating cyber attacks against state institutions and the energy infrastructure of Moscow, all this to improve their offensive capacity in the computer field.

This was stated by the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Oleg Syromolotov, in an interview with TASS, where he specified that the United Kingdom regularly carries out simulations of cyber attacks on Russian infrastructures.

"The UK is systematically targeting Russia with its offensive capabilities in the information sphere. Exercises are carried out regularly, including under NATO auspices, to model attacks," Syromolotov said, warning that they are targeting Russia. Russia's vital information infrastructure.

Specifically, these alleged computer attack simulations would target institutions in the Kaliningrad region, as well as energy companies in the Russian capital, Moscow.

Likewise, Syromolotov has stated before the aforementioned agency that the United Kingdom is deliberately recruiting Russian-speaking hackers, facts that he has described as "not surprising at all."

Meanwhile, Russia's deputy foreign minister has accused London of "methodically" promoting Russophobia online to "change the facts about Russia's foreign policy in the Western information sphere."

"Recently there have been media reports of a cyberattack on the UK postal service. Without waiting for the results of the investigation, British journalists have linked it to Russia," Syromolotov said.
