North Korea accuses the US of "intentionally" generating tension through military exercises

MADRID, 7 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

North Korea has accused the United States on Tuesday of intentionally generating tension in the region, after Washington has carried out military exercises together with Seoul.

"Despite our repeated warnings, the US continues to intentionally aggravate the situation on the Korean peninsula and the region," reads a statement from the North Korean Foreign Ministry collected by the KCNA agency.

The Pyongyang authorities have indicated that "the recent joint air drill (...) clearly shows that the US scheme to use nuclear weapons against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is being carried out at the level of a real war" .

"The unbroken chain of provocative US military actions against the DPRK heralds the aggressive nature of the large-scale US-South Korean joint military exercises, due to start in a few days, and the severity of the catastrophic tension it will entail." ", the letter continues.

Likewise, the Ministry has "strongly demanded the immediate cessation of hostile military acts that disturb peace and stability on the peninsula," while at the same time it has asked the international community to promote détente in the region.

The United States has carried out military maneuvers on Monday with a strategic bombing B-52H with the capacity to carry nuclear bombs in a joint exercise with the Armed Forces of South Korea.

The South Korean Ministry of Defense, which has reported these maneuvers carried out in the Yellow Sea, has indicated that South Korean F-15K and KF-16 fighter jets have also participated, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

Last Friday the United States flew over the area with a B-1B bomber, also capable of dropping atomic bombs, in response to recent missile launches by North Korea.
