Moscow alludes to the "circumstances" surrounding Russia as the main reason for Putin's absence from the G20

MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has alluded to the circumstances surrounding Russia to justify the absence of its president, Vladimir Putin, at the next G20 summit, scheduled for this Tuesday and Wednesday in Bali, Indonesia.

"Circumstances dictate the priority of the president being in the Russian Federation, so it has been decided that the Russian side would participate in this summit at the level of Foreign Minister (Sergei Lavrov)," Peskov said.

Despite the absence of Putin, Peskov has stressed that any country that is interested in meeting with a Russian representative can do so with Lavrov, who in fact has previously communicated with "a large circle of participants in this summit."

"Russia is represented at the summit at a high and high level, and in fact, Lavrov communicates with a large circle of participants at this summit. Everyone else, if they show their desire, has the opportunity to communicate with the Russian side at a high level," added the spokesman for the Russian Presidency.

Finally, Peskov highlighted Russia's latest communications with the Indonesian side prior to the summit. Both nations have recently maintained a dialogue that Moscow has valued as "constructive."

The Kremlin already stated on Friday that Putin did not plan to participate in the G20 summit even by videoconference. The participation of Russia, and more specifically of Putin, has been criticized for months both by the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, and by his American counterpart, Joe Biden.
