McCarthy fails in the seventh round of voting to elect the new speaker of the US House of Representatives

MADRID, 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Republican leader Kevin McCarthy has once again been stuck this Thursday and has not obtained the necessary votes to become the president of the United States House of Representatives, a situation of blockade that is repeated after seven rounds of voting.

In this seventh round, even Florida representative Matt Gaetz has cast a favorable vote for former President Donald Trump, since it is not necessary to be a member of the House to be elected, as reported by NBC.

In previous votes, 20 Republican representatives have voted in favor of candidate Byron Donalds, while Congresswoman Victoria Spartz has decided to abstain, but not in the seventh round. Democrats, by contrast, remain united in their decision to have Hakeem Jeffries represent them.

McCarthy is willing to win the presidency and has assured this Thursday that he does not mind being elected for a short period of time. Meanwhile, North Carolina Representative Dan Bishop has urged the group to elect Donalds, who would be the first black speaker.
