Liz Truss will stand in the next general election despite her brief stint at Downing Street

MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss will stand in the general election despite spending less than two months at the head of the Government in Downing Street after taking office after Boris Johnson resigned.

Thus, despite his turbulent time in government, Truss plans to run for a seat in the House of Commons, as a spokesman for his team has confirmed to 'The Sun' newspaper.

Truss, who was MP for South West Norfolk in 2010, spent 44 days as prime minister this year, making her the shortest-serving British prime minister in UK history.

"I am happy to say that Liz will stand for re-election in the next general election," the spokesman said after several Conservative Party lawmakers refused to run again as the party tries to recover from the current political crisis.

Boris Johnson himself has also said he is willing to stand once again to defend his candidacy for the Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency, located in the Greater London municipality.
