Kosovo's prime minister warns that barricades in the north "will not be tolerated for a long time"

MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has warned this Monday that the barricades carried out by Kosovo Serb citizens in the north despite calls from the international community "will not be tolerated for a long time" and has indicated that the NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR) has asked for "a little time".

Kurti, who has indicated that the local authorities are coordinating with the aforementioned international mission, has indicated that the barricades "will not constitute a form of civil protest while there are armed people who want Kosovo to return to 1999."

His words come as the barricades continue in northern Kosovo despite requests from the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, which have called for a decrease in hostilities in the area after Serb citizens came out to protest. for the arrest of two former Kosovar Serb policemen.

The crisis has escalated and has led Serbia to ask NATO to allow the deployment of its own security forces in Kosovo as part of the international mission, an unprecedented request. KFOR, for its part, has already increased its presence in the area, especially at the Jarinje pass, on the border with Serbia.

Kurti himself has strongly criticized Serbia's request and has guaranteed that the Kosovo Police is more than prepared to protect the population in the Kosovo Serb areas.

Kurti has insisted that the Special Police of Northern Kosovo is dedicated to "protecting citizens and arresting criminals", specifically "big shots of organized crime, in accordance with the instructions of the Prosecutor's Office".
