Iran will use video surveillance to prosecute violations of the Islamic dress code

MADRID, 3 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Iranian authorities will use video surveillance to prosecute possible violations of the Islamic dress code and put more pressure on women to wear the headscarf.

A parliamentary commission wants to extend to these cases the surveillance already used in public spaces to detect other types of infractions, as reported by the newspaper 'Etemad'.

In this sense, the authorities have explained that the women will be alerted by text message to possible violations. If this violation of the dress code is repeated, fines will be applied.

Many women in the main cities of the country do not wear the veil, which is why critical voices say that there is no social support to support this type of measure, especially after months of protests against the government over the death of the young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini. , who died after being beaten while in police custody for violating the dress code.

Amini has become a symbol of the anti-government demonstrations, which has sparked the worst political crisis in decades, although protests have subsided in recent weeks.
