Gustavo Petro announces that a group of young people detained in the national strike will be named 'peace managers'

MADRID, 4 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced this Saturday that a group of young people detained in the national strike protests will be designated "peace managers" and will be able to leave prison for Christmas.

"Hundreds of young people arrested for participating in protests will be declared peace managers before Christmas Eve in Colombia," said the Colombian leader.

"This government does not side with youth, social and activist leaders who simply expressed themselves by keeping them imprisoned in Colombian jails when they have the right to spend their Christmas with their families," Petro said, according to the FM chain.

On several occasions, the Colombian president has highlighted the importance of solving the legal situation of these young people detained by the Public Force during the national strike protests that took place in 2021 during the Government of Iván Duque.
