Cristina Fernández is sentenced to six years in prison and perpetual disqualification for corruption

MADRID, 6 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

An Argentine court has sentenced Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on Tuesday to six years in prison and perpetual disqualification from holding public office for a crime of corruption, within the framework of the so-called "Road case", although the sentence can still be appealed.

Fernández had been accused of participating in a plot to defraud the State through the concession of public works in the province of Santa Cruz.

Likewise, she has been acquitted of the crime of association to commit a crime, so the sentence has not been as broad as expected by prosecutors Diego Luciani and Sergio Mola, who had requested twelve years in prison for her.

The vice president immediately reacted to the sentence, denouncing being the victim of a "parallel state" and "a judicial mafia".

In addition to Fernández, the Federal Oral Court 2 has also sentenced the businessman Lázaro Báez, whose company, Austral Construcciones, received the fifty projects that have been investigated, to six years in prison, and the former Secretary of Public Works, José López, who He has received the same sentence as the vice president.

The rest of the eleven defendants have received jail terms ranging from three years and six months to six years. The court has also requested the confiscation of the convicted 84,000 million Argentine pesos (about 474,000 euros). The judges now have a period of 40 business days to make their arguments known, although it could be extended due to the proximity of the Christmas holidays.

Given the expectation raised by the reading of the verdict, which has been done via videoconference, security has been intensified at the main federal courts in Buenos Aires, which have remained fenced off since the day before and surrounded by strong police operations.
