Coronavirus cases drop 90 percent in China since last outbreak

MADRID, 2 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Chinese authorities have reported this Thursday that there has been a decrease of about 90 percent of the cases of coronavirus registered in the country during the last outbreak, which allows announcing that it is under control.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has indicated that in the last day another 434 infections have been reported, which is a significantly lower figure than that registered during the peak of the outbreak, on January 4, when 4,273 cases were added in just one day.

Between January 20 and 26, the Asian giant registered a number of 6,364 deaths related to the disease, a figure that represented half the number of deaths detected the previous week, as indicated by the CDC in a statement.

The number of serious cases among hospitalized patients has also dropped significantly to 14,000 from the 128,000 registered on January 5. Since last December, China has reduced measures and controls to curb the pandemic due to protests against the government's 'COVID zero' policy.

Earlier this week, the authorities stated that the cases of COVID-19 would continue their downward trend despite the trips and celebrations associated with the New Year holidays, which already led Beijing to consider the emergency experienced in December after the lifting of the main restrictions in the face of the pandemic.
