The Chinese authorities have assured this Wednesday that "they are closer than ever" in their history to achieving "total reunification" with Taiwan, days after the end of the last Congress of the Communist Party in which the president, Xi Jinping, was given another five years of mandate.

"We are closer than ever in our history, and we are more confident and capable than ever, to achieving national rejuvenation," Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang stressed from Beijing.

In that sense, Ma has assured that they are "closer than ever in history, as well as safer and more capable, of achieving the complete reunification of the motherland", in response to questions about President Xi's words on Taiwan, which received loud applause. during his intervention in that Congress.

"The wheels of history are moving towards the reunification of China," said Xi, who affirmed that this process "without a doubt" will take place, although he did not specify when, according to the Bloomberg news agency.

The Communist Party of China chose on Saturday the new composition of the Central Committee and its highest leadership bodies during the farewell and closing of its XX National Congress, marked by the escorted departure of former president Hu Jintao in full session, under the gaze undeterred by his successor Xi Jinping, who is heading for a historic third consecutive term.

At that meeting, China stressed its "firm" opposition to Taiwan's independence, as well as its proposed model for the island based on "one country, two systems."
