Borrell criticizes Lavrov for disrespecting Holocaust victims

MADRID, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has criticized this Thursday the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, for his recent statements in which he has stated that Washington has formed a Western "coalition" to "resolve the Russian question" in a similar way to Adolf Hitler's "final solution" to exterminate the Jews.

"Lavrov's (...) latest comments accusing the 'West' of seeking a 'final solution' for Russia are completely misplaced, disrespectful and trample on the memory of the six million Jews and other victims who were systematically murdered. in the Holocaust," Borrell said.

The head of European Diplomacy has indicated that these words "add to Minister Lavrov's previous anti-Semitic comments", while criticizing Moscow's "manipulation of the truth" "to justify its illegal war of aggression".

For Borrell, the Kremlin has thus reached "another unacceptable and despicable low point", as can be read in a statement from the EU External Action press team.

"There is no parallel between the crimes of Nazi Germany and international aid for Ukraine in the defense of its territory and its people against unjustified aggression," he stressed, denouncing the invasion and attacks against civilians.

Thus, he highlighted the "unequivocal commitment" of the European Union to "guarantee that such atrocities never happen again": "The denial, distortion and trivialization of the Holocaust go against the laws and values of the European Union" , has remembered.
